Confession: Trashy romance novels
I have a confession: I love trashy romance novels. This may not seem like a big deal, but I am a college-educated, young (27) woman who considers herself to be a feminist. I mean, I got my degree in biology, y'all. I'm not supposed to like these novels! They demean women in so many different ways - frequently, they are stories of rape and subjugation. But, damn, it's some good reading! Seriously, I like these books so much that I briefly considered becoming a romance writer. I even bought a book on how to be a romance writer! I went so far as to develop characters and story lines. (This is a confession of the grandest proportion.)
I love that these novels are a quick read. I don't have to think about anything when I'm reading. The plots are usually pretty standard. Basically: girl meets boy, girl and boy fall in love, girl and boy deny to themselves that they are falling in love, something traumatic happens where they might lose each other, boy and girl realize that they are in love, they live happily ever after. (My favorite author is Jude Deveraux.) That, my friends, is some complex stuff.
'T' says I like these books because I am a true romantic. I say I like them just for the sex...
*As a side note, I think that I am going to start an irregular series on my confessions. I figure, since I'm not going to be going to church anytime soon, I might as well post them here. I'm going to add a link on the sidebar just for this.*
Enjoy!
