Proven wrong, yet again...

Yesterday, I was proven wrong again. Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, as this happens all the time (Consequences of assuming that I’m always right.). However, yesterday, it was so bad, that I had to comment on it.

A bit of background info: T and I are in the process of suing our previous landlord for our last month’s rent and damages from prohibited practices. The short, but not sweet, version is that they shut off our water, they removed a lock in the apt, and they destroyed/stole all of my plants. It was got so bad that we had to break our lease – legally, BTW.

I have had shoddy landlords in the past, but I never followed up with it legally. However, our landlord was so bad, that I refused to just wait around for karma to bite 'em in the ass! As such, I finally got all the paperwork together and went to the courthouse to file the papers. Since then, we've been waiting for our day in court (Sounds funny to say that and have it apply to me.).

So, we went to court yesterday. We were there to have a pre-trial meeting. This meeting is mandated so that both parties can attempt to come to some type of agreement. We had a feeling that the arbitration would not go smoothly, but I figured that our landlord would not be stupid enough to think that they could win the case; therefore, they would settle and be done with it.

Well, folks, I was proven wrong yet again, and, apparently, they are stupider than I thought.

Despite the mountain (really, it’s a lot) of evidence that we have against them, they refused to settle AND – here’s the kicker folks – they are now going to sue us for money that we owe them for breaking the lease. These people continue to prove me wrong every chance they get.

Oy!
