Codependency can't be all that bad, can it?

This is Part 2 in a series.

So, I detailed what codepency is in Part 1. Let's get to the pros/cons of codependency.

This is pretty much all made up by me, so if you agree, let's hear it, and if you disagree, well, fooey on you, but let's hear it anyway.

Cons
(Why start with the positives and end on a negative tone? Also, these closely mimic the symptoms.)

  • You lose all sense of yourself.
  • You cannot function alone.

  • The other person becomes your everything.
  • You are insular to everyone else.

  • Control issues. (Nuff said.)

  • Issues of distrust.

  • Being physically sick because of the stress in the relationship.

  • Pros

  • You are insular to everyone else.

  • The other person becomes your everything.
  • You become the rock for each other.

  • You are each other's best friend.

  • There is a strong emotional attachment between the two of you.

  • You'll notice that a few of these appear on both lists. Obviously, that's because there are positive and negative aspects to the point.

Some might argue that the pros are evident of a healthy relationship and don't apply to codependent relationships; this concept is interdependency, something that I'll discuss more tomorrow (thanks Lisa for the heads up!).

    Stay tuned for tomorrow's post.

No, no, you're right. I try to look at the pos of everything. don't think I articulated it very well, but I should prob just call it something different.
