Going to the Chapel and we're gonna get married!

Buried deep within the ickiness of this post was some amazing news that deserves its own airtime (isn't that what they say on the radio?). Some of you readers were very astute to pick it out, but I'll say it anyway:

We're gettin hitched!*

We both asked each other to spend the rest of our lives together.

Tara had actually asked me about 10 months into our relationship. We even set a date - twice actually. But, with all of our continued drama, we never ended up going through with it. And, with the recent events, we even called it off, to a certain extent. I gave Tara back my ring and she gave me the promise ring I had given her (nothing fancy, just a silver band). I told her that if we made it through the 6 months, we would ask each other again. And we did!

The details of how I asked Tara are in the linked post. I ordered a new ring the other day, so that's on the way.

Tara also asked me again (details in the linked post).

So, we are planning on having it at our friend Sara's house. We haven't set the date yet, but we had originally planned around November, so we may stick with that time. That's a great season down here in SoFla. It's going to be pretty small, no more than 50 people, even less if we can swing it. It will be fairly traditional, because Tara is that way - if it were up to me, we'd have a big ol' BBQ and some good music. But, well, you might could see how Tara would want something a little bit more than that.

Anyway, we are going to have it catered, just because we don't know anybody who can cook really awesome (except for mei-mei, babe - take note!). And, if we hire a server, that keeps it orderly. I don't think we're getting a DJ, because we can make up a bunch of cd's to play and Sara has a kick-ass sound system. All I need is the traditional songs for the new couple and the parents and, of course, the electric slide! (Don't laugh, it's not a party to me w/o it. Y'all should the seen the pictures of me and my family doing the slide at my uncle's wedding - hilarious!)

Decorations are going to be very minimal, also. Sara has a great backyard where we're going to string up some white lights and paper lanterns (kind of like the traditional Cuban parties you see in the movies).

Oh, we also haven't decided on where we are going for our honeymoon. I think we were looking at Puerto Rico, but that's more my choice than Tara's. She may be into some place in Europe. We'll see what our budget is and take it from there.

I think that's it.

*OK, we are gay, so this isn't exactly true, but you get the idea.

yay! first! woohoo!

it doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is - straight, gay, curvy, whatever - if you love each other and want to spend forever with each other, then that is what counts, not a signed document.
